Dunedin-based author Rushi Vyas will visit Wanaka next month to celebrate the launch of his latest poetry book.

Titled When I Reach For Your Pulse, Vyas’ latest work contains a collection of poems that delve into the author’s struggle to come to terms with the sudden death of his father.

A launch event will take place at 3.30pm on Sunday, October 8, at Rhyme & Reason brewery.

The free event will include readings from Vyas as well as fellow authors Liz Breslin and Eliana Gray.

Born and raised in the United States, Vyas now lives in Dunedin where he is completing a PhD at the University of Otago. He also teaches on the university’s creative writing programme.

His poems have been published in US journals including Adroit Journal, The Georgia Review, Indiana Review, The Offing and Tin House and, in New Zealand, in Landfall and The Spinoff.

Vyas will return to Wanaka in late October for a series of weekend workshops aimed at improving writing skills.

Hosted at the Wanaka Community Hub on October 28 and 29, workshops run by Vyas and several other authors will feature topics ranging from personal essay writing to editing.

The event will culminate with a speaking words workshop and celebration at Rhyme & Reason, where participants will get to share their words in front of an audience.

Tickets for the workshops are available now from humantix.
